It sounds like a solid process to me. You might find, if you do a third draft, you will drill the words down again. Mine is a many-draft long-haul. I am still more in an additive phase - with some passages, even scenes, not yet written, but I am always looking for places to cut, whether words, or moments, so my total word count may not change drastically from this point.

Thanks for your post. I'm giving it a close look right now, going line-by-line. As I go about my days, I find myself constantly thinking about little details to add or change. I wonder if some author ever feel completely finished with a book, or they are always thinking about making changes.

When do you think your project will be ready for querying?

My old stage design professor always said, "A production is never finished, it's simply abandoned." At some point, opening night is here, there's an audience in the seats, and the next project is waiting. I think when you reach the point that you are just moving words around, it's time to let someone else read it. For mine, I'm not yet worried about "is it done yet?" since it clearly isn't. LOL! I'm working now on a major pass that I hope will finally fill in all the gaps. Then, I'll do another big pass to smooth it out. Then a professional developmental edit, resulting revisions, then professional line edits. Ugh. So much yet to do. But, I'm not planning to query. I am planning to self-publish. So, its on me to be sure it is well edited. I hope you are seeing good progress and will have a positive reception when you do put it out there for submission!
