Getting started writing Calusa gold - 27,979 words so far.
Easy to keep going but hard to stop and start writing.
I have started writing, and I’m up to 27,979 words. I am happy with the story so far, but I keep feeling drawn to do more research. Just today, I picked up three books on Aztecs from the library. The more I read, the more interesting the history gets for me. I have set a daily goal of writing at least 500 words. This isn’t too hard for me once I get going. Teaching does take up my time, and we had the hurricane, but I know these are just excuses.
The truth is, I have done enough research to write this book. I’ll use my continuing studies to fill in authentic details once I finish the first draft. I imagine the book will be about 100,000 words. I think that will be a decent number, and it may go higher.
Does anyone out there have any experience writing historical fiction and knowing when it’s time to stop researching and just focus on writing?
