Hello Friends,
I hope you are having a good week. Thanks for joining me here.
Update:
This week, I’ve been adding to several email lists I will use to eventually market Shame of Kings. I found some more museum and historical site gift shops. I’ve also started to compile contact information for Florida professors with an interest in Native American studies. I am not sure how I will approach them. Maybe send them sample copies? Maybe just let them know about it.
In the coming week, I will start gathering a list of high school history departments and teachers. My thought is to do a mass email flood to anyone remotely interested in historical fiction when I release the book.
These steps aren’t just based on an assumption that I will self publish. If I do attract an agent and traditional publisher, it will still be very important to do my own marketing, so I don’t see this as wasting time.
Choice of Publisher?
I’ve been checking out several companies that provide book formatting and distribution. Each is unique, but in general they format book in electronic and print formats, send to sellers like Amazon and Apple, and help with marketing. I have made a decision here that should simplify things for me. I really want to do this without paying for it.
There are many people would I could pay for services. These can include formatting, cover design, social media posts, email lists, and many more. I don’t want to sound arrogant and say I don’t need help, but I do have the advantage of time. Being semi-retired, I can take my time with this and be thorough.
I will learn as much as I can about formatting. I am not an artist, but I know something about digital graphics. I have also learned a bit about SEO writing for Avgeekery.com.
Will all this work? Maybe not, but like I said, I have the time and if the worst thing is that I don’t sell many copies, I will have at least have learned a few things. That can’t be bad as I hopefully shift to more fully retired than semi-retired.
Have a great week. Stay safe.
And now for something a bit different. I have written two novels and short stories under my pen name “Will Granger.” They are on sale on Amazon.
My novels Anabar’s Run and Anabar Rises are the first two books in a coming-of-age series. I believe they are suited for readers aged roughly 10 - 14 and maybe older. There is some violence, so I wouldn’t suggest them for younger kids, but that it a decision for parents.
I did have my sixth grade English classes read Anabar’s Run and had some success with it. I didn’t tell them I wrote it, but they usually figured it out eventually.
I also have several short horror stories for sale on Amazon. Horror has been a one of my favorite genres. I had fun writing them and made my own covers. No AI for me! Please consider checking them out.
And one more thing: I have created some lessons for my Middle Grade novels Anabar’s Run and Anabar Rises and have them for sale on the Teachers Pay Teachers website. If you are a teacher, I hope you will check them out. As subscribers to this newsletter, I’ll send you the materials for no charge. Even if you aren’t a teacher, I would really appreciate it if you would share the link.
Hey! I saw your post pop up on my homepage and wanted to show some support. If you get a chance, I’d really appreciate a little love on my latest newsletter too always happy to boost each other!
